March AC beat the Strava challenge

With all club training and races suspended until at least the end of June, local running clubs have been coming up with inventive ways to challenge each other and keep up their fitness levels, while still adhering to the government guidelines on social distancing.

One such challenge was made by Ely Runners to March Athletic club.

Ely used the GPS running app Strava to spell out the name of their running club and their club logo. Once they had completed this feat, they challenged March AC to try the same thing.

The challenge was made by Justin Smith and was boldly taken on by Andrew Fovargue, who rallied the club with a great competitive spirit. The result was 18 runners from March AC running round the streets of March, creating the individual letters and the club logo by using GPS tracking on the Strava running app.

The club logo proved to be the most challenging element but was no match for Andrew Wool, who ran around the roundabout on Hundred Road enough times to create the head of the runner in the logo.

The following club runners took on the challenge: Daniel Barber (M), Lin Sutton (A), James Arran (R), Graeme Dedman (C), Serge Lambert (H), Luke Brown (A), Emma Chapman (T), Dawn Veal (H), Emma Reed (L), Wendy Harrison (E), Jon Long (T), Sue Ward (I), Gaelle Bryant (C), Louis Beningfield (C), Steve Robinett (L), Mark Darlow (U), Nina Markillie (B) and Andrew Wool (March AC logo).

In the spirit of friendly rivalry, March Athletic Club now passes the Strava challenge over to Fenland Running Club and Three Counties Running Club.
