Runners don't let coronavirus stop them

Three Counties Running Club members who had been in training for marathons before the coronavirus took part in a virtual race instead.

On the day the 40th London Marathon should have taken place, they ran a marathon distance as a team relay (with virtual hand-overs).

Six teams with seven runners in each took part, with each team representing a marathon that members had been training for: London, Boston, Manchester, Paris, Peterborough and Brighton.

Leg one of each team started their 3.75 mile run at 9.30am and, when they finished, they Facebook messaged the next leg of their team to go, and so on until all legs had been run.

The virtual marathon relay went through many villages (listed below)and there was quite a bit of support on route.

Area covered on the various legs included Christchurch, Elm, Emneth, Friday Bridge, Leverington, Long Sutton, Murrow, Sutton Bridge, Sutton St James, Tydd St Mary, Walpole St Andrew, Walsoken, West Walton and Wisbech.

And on such a hot day all teams did very well to finish the 26.2 miles in a sub-four hour time.

  • Brothers Jake and Josh Trundle completed their third of three 5k runs in support of the NHS. Both boys have done really well, with times getting quicker each week. Maisie Macdonald also completed her Run 5k effort in support of the NHS, actually running four miles in 32:01.
