Wisbech CC 4ths' Malletts hammer March 4th XI

March may have won the first team derby, but where the 4th XIs were concerned, the tables were turned – with Wisbech 4ths winning by 99 runs and the Malletts hammering March 4ths.

Wisbech 4ths set 154-9 from their 40 overs with Martin Woollard top-scoring on 37, Lyndon Mallett 20 and Elliott Peck not out 21.

Still seeking their first win of the season, the visiting strike partners Phil Goodfellow (3-20) and Harry Gowler (3-12) did the early damage for March.

But in reply only three visiting batsmen managed to reach double figures as they were dismissed for 55.

The bowling was dominated by John Mallett 8-5-9-5 and Lyndon Mallett 8-2-15-4.

Wisbech sit in third place in CCA Junior League 4 North.

On Sunday in Rutland League Division 1, Wisbech Town won by two wickets at Grantham. Kieran Haynes bagged 10-0-25-5 in Grantham’s 179 all out. Both Haynes, who took four wickets versus March on Saturday, and Josh Bowers had super overall weekends.

To add to his derby fifty the previous day, Bowers hit 52 and fellow county player Gary Freear not out 39 to see the away side home.

A stunning bowling and fielding performance saw March 3rd XI record a nine-wicket win over Wilburton 2nds at Doddington.

James Beresford and Dan Waltham ended up with identical 3-4 bowling figures as the visitors were shot out for just 45.

That didn’t take March very long to get in reply, with Harry Stevens smacking 30 quick runs, backed by Barrie Carter’s 17.
