All-rounders Ant Palmer and Gary Freear get Wisbech Town CC home in Cambs League at Thriplow




Good all-round displays by Anthony Palmer and Gary Freear ensured Wisbech Town 1st XI got home by three wickets in Cambs Whitings League Division One at Thriplow on Saturday.

Palmer starred in a tight effort with the ball, taking 3-16 off 8.2 overs as Thriplow were dismissed for 166.

Freear added 3-29 off ten overs, while Kieran Haynes and Chris Clark bagged two scalps each.

Skipper Freear then hit 32, second top-scoring behind opener Sam Albutt’s 39.

Palmer hit 19, and he and Paul Edgeller were out just before the end to give the visitors a slight scare.

Scores: Thriplow 166 all out (47.2 overs). Wisbech Town 167-7 (43.3 overs).

Sunday, Rutland League: Market Deeping 104-2 (20.5) 20pts beat Wisbech 103 all out (31.3: Rhys Howell 56) 2pts by 8 wkts.

March 1st XI were on the wrong end of a nail-biting finish at Clare College, when Cambridge CC 2nd XI crept home by two wickets with the same number of balls remaining in Whitings League Division 1.

The two stand-out March players, Brandon Phillips and Shardul Brahmbhatt, figured in a third wicket stand of 103, with opener Phillips top-scoring with 86 and Brahmbhatt continuing this season’s impressive form with 40 in the 219-9 total.

Brahmbhatt then produced a good spell of off-spin after tea as his 4-39 put March in the box seat at 139-7.

But Clare College is never easy to bowl on or defend and the home side scored the eight runs required off the first four balls of the final over.
