Gary Freear ton helps Wisbech CC Rutland League team beat Grantham while Kieran Haynes and Brodie Ellis bag wickets
County batsman Gary Freear scored a century as Wisbech Town’s Rutland League team beat Grantham by five wickets on Sunday.
Freear (pictured) hit 118 off 106 balls and was out just before the end as the hosts chased down Grantham’s 252-9 with more than three overs to spare.
A huge 144 by Grantham’s number four Daniel Freeman was in vain. Freear bagged 3-64, while Kieran Haynes and Brodie Ellis captured two wickets apiece.
Opener and skipper Danny Haynes (41) added 76 for the first wicket with Freear, who put on 82 for the fourth wicket with Hamish McCulloch (26).
Scores: Grantham won the toss and elected to bat. Grantham 252-9 (45.0 overs).
Wisbech 253-5 (41.2 overs).
Wisbech Town Sunday 3rds won at Chatteris in the Fenland Invitation Trophy Ernie Wool Cup on Sunday, after Chatteris won the toss and elected to bat, by 9 wickets.
Thomas Dunning, with 59 off 64 balls, and Ross Gardner not out 69 off 62 balls with11 fours, carried the visitors to victory.
