Haynes manuals are for car workshop enthusiasts – well, ton-up Wisbech Town CC opener Danny Haynes went through the mechanics of how to anchor an innings during a comprehensive Whitings League win at Ramsey.

Haynes – who also hit a century on Sunday – struck 101 off 143 balls and enabled Wisbech to win the toss and set 274-6 off 50 overs to win by 132 runs in Division 1.

Haynes and in-form Josh Bowers, who hit 72, compiled a second-wicket stand of 160 after Dom Stannard departed early doors for a duck.

The pair had the first 50 runs up in just seven overs, taking just a few balls longer to post 100.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Bowers (six fours and a six in total) reached his 50 off 35 balls, Haynes doing likewise off 76 balls. Haynes got to 100 off 140 balls, and hit seven fours in all.

With skipper Gary Freear (39) and Paul Edgeller (not out 28) adding brisk knocks, the visitors set a formidable target.

In reply, no Ramsey batsman got near a fifty, and the hosts were 142 all out in 31.2 overs.

Edgeller completed a good match with 3-32, chipping in with 2-25 was Anthony Palmer, while Silas Mutubaki (2-18) and Joe Dunning (3-23) mopped up the tail.

Dunning also took four catches.

This win over the basement club puts Wisbech in fourth position.
