In Whiting & Partners Division 3, Wisbech 2nds were 49-8 but swashbuckling number seven batsman Matt Esser rescued the away side.

Esser hit eight fours and three sixes during his 73 against Burwell & Exning 2nd XI.

Esser put on 84 for the tenth wicket with George Gowler (23) and 38 with last man Brodie Ellis (12) before Esser was caught.

Chasing 171, Burwell & Exning were 18-3 and 73-5 but fought on and their last pair hit 12 runs together to deny the frustrated visitors.

Brodie Ellis took 2-27, George Gowler 3-34, Ian Cooper 2-37 and Josh Porter 1-19 in a dogged bowling display.
