Cross-country success at Marham and St Neots for Fenland mother and daughter

A Fenland mum and daughter enjoyed success on the running circuit over the festive period.

Katie Vargeson was the first lady home in the Marham Flyers New Year's Eve 10k on December 31.

Racing around the 10k course in a personal best winning time of 38:47.

The day was dry but was blustery in parts on the gently undulating course around the perimeter of the RAF Marham Airbase.

Just five days later Katie’s daughter, Felicity Allen, 10, was making her first attempt at the Cambridgeshire County Cross Country Championships held at Priory Park, St Neots.

Felicity, competing in the under-11 category, took on the 1.7km that was initially sprinkled with snow from the night before.

After an extremely cold start to the race at the beginning of January, Felicity came home in a time of 8:02 on the hilly course to claim the top prize and become the U11 girls' county champion.
