Wisbech Wheeler Tony Bye shines in Eastern Counties Cycling Association 10-miler near Newmarket

By Pete Woodhouse

It was a busy weekend of racing for Wisbech Wheeler, Tony Bye, who put in a 25mph-plus cycle ride on Saturday in the Eastern Counties Cycling Association 10-miler near Newmarket, writes Pete Baldwin.

He then climbed back on his TT machine on Sunday in the ECCA ‘25’ to put in a good, solid 1.03.25.

Bye, who only started racing in his 60s, has proved that it’s not only possible to start taking part in high intensity competition in later life, but also produce impressive results.

Another evergreen racer, 70-plus Roger Sewell, with a lifetime of racing experience showed that if they’re good when they’re young and they keep going, they stay good and proved it with a 1.01.08 in the Cambridge CC event on the same day.

In last-minute news received over the weekend, top Wisbech rider Mat McClure (pictured) backed up his club TT record and personal best last week with a first place in the triathlon event at Wells on Sunday.
