March Town interim boss Ashley Taylor could take the job on a permanent basis by the end of this week
Ashley Taylor’s future as March Town boss could be settled by the end of this week – and he is setting his sights high for the rest of the season.
Taylor has been in interim charge of The Hares since taking over from Arran Duke in August.
He believes the club are meeting this week to decide if he is the best man to take them forward, and hopes he is given the chance to build on the upturn in form his arrival has generated.
“I’ve made it clear to the club that I’m happy to take the job,” he said.
“I’ve also said it doesn’t bother me that I’m still classed as interim manager. If they want to give it more time to see where we go, I understand that.
“I always said from the start that we want to do what’s best for the football club, and if that means potentially someone else then that means potentially someone else.
“At this moment in time it’s still me, and I think they’re going to discuss it this week.”
March have looked a much more dangerous side in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division under Taylor, but still have work to do if they want to push away from the lower reaches of the table and cement a mid-table position.
Assuming he is handed the job on a permanent basis, his aspirations are clear.
“We want to keep learning as a group, developing as a group,” he said.
“To keep improving is the most important thing. The aim is to try and finish as high as we possibly can within the league, to consolidate our position and have consistency as much as we can throughout the season. Then we’ll be looking to take all those experiences into hopefully doing something better next season. That would be the plan.”
Taylor believes a top ten finish this season is a realistic aim – and he can take positives from last weekend’s 4-2 defeat at table-toppers Gorleston, who have still only lost one game.
Strikes from Jack Saunders and Craig Gillies brought March to within a goal of a point after they had conceded three goals in six minutes to go 3-0 down, but a late sucker-punch sealed their fate.
The Hares are down in 15th spot, but are still a couple of good results away from breaking into the top half – and could get on their way this Saturday when they entertain Thetford Town, who are just a single point above them.
“It’s a big game for us,” said Taylor. “Against any team in and around us, we want to do everything we can to get the points.
“I’m sure there will be good support for us on Saturday, so we’ll use that to try and get the three points.”
