Chatteris Cricket Club 1st XI lose to Needingworth despite Anthony Bamford's 124, with March and Wisbech sides also in action
Hosts Chatteris 1st XI surprisingly fell to heavy defeat at the hands of Needingworth by seven wickets in Cambs & Hunts CCA Senior League Division 1 on Saturday - despite skipper Anthony Bamford's undefeated 124.
Chatteris posted 201-7 when 45 overs closed at Fullers Cricket Ground. Bamford carried his bat, while the experienced Peter Munns added 13 and Adam Whiting 20.
Needingworth cruised to 203-3 in the 32nd over. Bamford (2-43) removed opening bats Reuan Williams and George Smith, but they had already done the damage with 143 for the first wicket. Stuart Porter took 1-33.
Chatteris are in fifth position, with Needingworth in eighth.
Elsewhere, fifth-placed Chatteris 2nds quickly lost at title contenders Telugu Association of Cambridge by nine wickets in CCA Junior League 2 North.
Chatteris folded to 121 all out in 30.5 overs. Luke Parnell was lbw for 19, Robbie Bradshaw added 14, Oli Bailey 11 and Stuart Gunn 20.
Telugu hammered 122 for one wicket down in 16 overs, with Oliver Tilbrook taking 1-29.
Wimblington beat away side Chippenham 2nds by five wickets to go third in CCA Junior League 4 North.
Aided by a run out from Connor Porter, Chippenham's top three failed to score and were 86 all out as 40 overs fell at Parkfield.
Leon Walker captured 2-18, Porter 3-12, Paul King 1-15, Kyle Butler 1-5 and Poppy Cole 2-13.
Wimblington finished on 89-5 from 23.4 overs. Opener Kyle Butler top-scored with 23, with Robert Kemp not out 11 and Porter 13.
Embroiled in the Division 3 relegation mire are Wisbech 2nds, who lost at home to promotion chasers Godmanchester Town won by 279 runs.
Godmanchester rattled off 375-5 when 45 overs mercifully ended. Jack Woollard took 2-95, Joseph Miller 2-62 and Robert Sidgewick 1-45.
March Town CC pulled off a much-needed first Whiting & Partners Division 1 win for a month by just four runs over home team Histon.
Opener Alex Millard cracked 124 off 141 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes.
Aron Visser hammered 112 off just 94, with nine boundaries in a massive second-wicket stand of 223.
Curtis Oldroyd chipped in with 15 and Udana Ranathunga 13 as March set a challenging 316-7 in 50 overs.
Histon made a game of it with 312-9 at the close.
Captain Samuel Clarke took 2-44, Millard 1-68, an unnamed player1-43 and Ranathunga 3-32. Two late run-outs aided eighth-spot March as last pair Om Menon's and Ben Kavanagh's seven-run stand was in vain.
Elsewhere, basement side Wisbech 3rds lost to St Ives Town & Warboys 2nds by 9 wickets in CCA Junior League 2 North.
Wisbech were skittled for 96 in just 17 overs. Skipper and keeper Ross Gardner compiled 12, Miller 14, Mark Buttriss 12 and number nine Sidgewick not out 27.
Wisbech top three Chris Whyatt scored 13, Elliott Peck 14 and Lee Hoenderkamp 30 - but the rest of the order failed and the hosts were 94 all out from 29 overs.
St Ives swiftly replied with 98-1 in the 11th over. Seb Bell bagged 1-26.
Second placed CCA Junior League 5 North side Wisbech 4ths triumphed over visitors St Ives Town & Warboys 4ths by 90 runs.
Wisbech were 213 all out in 40 overs. Opener Adrian Clare hit 22, Dan Crossley 15, Jacob Philpott 29, Harrison Smith 47 with seven fours, Martin Knowles 51 with nine fours and Adam Gardner 19.
St Ives fell for 123 in the 35th over. John Mallett bagged 2-17, Louis Avis 1-21, Crossley 2-24 and Gardner 3-17.
No scores were available from league leaders Wisbech Firsts' game at Newmarket.
