Leverington Ladies enjoy mixed fortunes before another derby

A third match in seven days proved too much for Leverington Ladies as they went down 5-0 at Cambridge University.

With a patched-up squad and playing with injuries, Leverington were well beaten by the S-TECH Cambs Premier division title favourites.

On Wednesday, Leverington Ladies shared the points after a 3-3 draw with Whittlesey on Wednesday.

Whittlesey took the lead after three minutes from a rebound after impressive Leverington keeper Kyra Portugal saved the initial shot.

But the home side bounced back and equalised from an Amy Newell spot kick before the break.

They took the lead when Sophie Swinden set up Ella Gavaghan, and then Swinden fired home a well rehearsed free kick from 25 yards to make it 3-1.

Whittlesey were by no means finished though and cut the defecit in half before equalising from the penalty spot.

The previous Sunday, Sophie Swinden was on target twice as Leverington Ladies drew 2-2 with March Town Ladies.

This weekend Leverington travel to March to face their local rivals again.
