'Sloppy' Parson Drove concede five goals in 15 minutes
Parson Drove joint manager Robbie Harris said his team lacked fight after they went down to a 6-0 defeat at Leiston Reserves on Saturday.
The Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Division One North new boys are now bottom of the table after just two fixtures, and face second bottom team and local rivals Wisbech St Mary at home tomorrow (Tuesday).
“We matched Leiston for 35 minutes but then conceded a bad goal and threw in the towel,” Harris told the Citizen.
The home side scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the first half, and scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half, making it five goals in just 15 minutes. The final goal came two minutes from the end.
“That was what was so disappointing as I like to see teams that I am involved in have a bit more fight in them. The goals we conceded were sloppy ones too, goals that we shouldn’t be letting in at this level.
“For the last hour of the match we just folded and were not in it in any way, shape or form. Now, we’ve got pressure that we didn’t want to get a result in the game against Wisbech St Mary. Both side have failed to get any points from their first two games so we both need to pick up points.
“The only positive thing is that I expect both Leiston and Diss to be up there at the end of the season. But, on the other hand, we have conceded 10 goals in two games and that’s nowhere near where we need to be.”
After the Wisbech St Mary game, Drove are at home for two consecutive Saturdays, against Framlingham Town this weekend and Debenham the following week.
“It will be good to have home advantage. Our pitch is not as good as some in this league so it will be interesting to see how a team like Framlingham, who have a lovely surface, will cope on it.
