East runner-up spot for Chatteris Kingfisher Tyler
On Sunday four Chatteris Kingfishers swimmers took part in the 800m races in the East Region Open Water Championships in Whitlingham Lakes in Norwich against swimmers from Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
Tyler Thomas (13) finished in second place in the East Region in the 13/14 year age group and was the first Cambridgeshire swimmer, with Liam Hill (13) the second one, finishing in 14th place.
Open swimmer Mark Thompson ended up first in the East Region, whilst 10-year old Chloe Cook finished 17th in 11/12 year old age group, being the first Cambridgeshire swimmer as well. Coach Andrew Jakeman was extremely pleased with their performance in the last event before the summer break.
n The junior squad travelled to Newmarket for the fourth round of the Junior Fenland League, hosted by Ely.
Several swimmers had previously gone through the cut-off times, so they had to swim up in older age groups. They still managed to come third overall, with 12 first positions, five seconds and 10 thirds, as well as 10 personal best times.
Results, first positions: 11-year old Thomas Hanley in 11/U 50m butterfly, 12/U 100m I.M. (PB) and 13/U 50m front crawl (as well as third place in the 12/U 50m butterfly), 11-year old Riley Astley in 12/U 50m f/c (PB), 50m backstroke and 11/u 50m breaststroke (as well as third spot in 13/U 50m backstroke), 10-year old Chloe Cook in 10/U 50m fly and 12/U 100m I.M. (second in both the 11/u 50m fly (PB) and 11/U 50m backstroke), 9-year old Freddie Allen in 10/U 50m breaststroke (PB) and butterfly (an unbelievable third in 13/U 100m I.M.(PB), 12-year old Megan Dawson in 13/U 50m breaststroke (PB) (third in 13/U 50m butterfly) and 11-year old Hallie White in 12/U 50m breaststroke.
Further second places: 10-year old Anastassja Herdien in 10/U 50m breaststroke (PB) and 11/U 50m f/c and 9-year old Ben Noble in 9/U 25m butterfly.
Also managing third: 8-year old Thomas Ashton in 9U 50m f/c (PB), Maisie Harper in 12/U 50m f/c, Ben Noble in 9/U 50m breast and backstroke (and swimming a PB in his 11/U 50m f/c) and Thea Hanley in 9/U 50m breast and 50m backstroke (PB). Adding further valuable points were Melissa Ablett and Kiara Kovacs.
Final result: Peterborough B 154, Ely 145, Chatteris 137, West Norfolk 113 and March 103.
