Up-and-down night for Dave Polley at stock car racing in King's Lynn

It was a night of two halves at the stock car racing at King’s Lynn on Saturday.

The People’s Trophy for the F2 Stock Cars was the event most affected by the heavy rain, and although it was still a great race it did spoil what was building up to be a tremendous spectacle.

Manea’s David Polley suffered the biggest disappointment in the big money race. He qualified for the final with a solid sixth-place finish in his heat.

Polley made steady progress through the field in the final and was up to third place when the race was suspended.

This grouped all the drivers up, with Scottish multi-champion Gordon Moodie already leading the way ahead of Leeds driver Tony Blackburn and Polley.

Polley was ideally placed to strike, but when the race resumed a quick attempt to take second place from Blackburn went all wrong. Whilst the Fife Flyer Moodie got a clean start, Blackburn and Polley crashed out together with the next four or five drivers in line.

Polley failed to restart with damage and Gordon was left to take an unchallenged victory.

Polley did get some consolation by winning the Grand National. He reeled in Andrew Palmer and took the lead with a well timed hit on the final bend. Polley the line sideways, but most importantly 0.102 seconds in front of Palmer.

Engine problems saw Tommy Parrin withdraw from the 2L Stock Cars, leaving Connor Peckham to reserve his best for the end with a fine eighth-place in the meeting final - his best finish of the night. Tommy Barnes won that race.

The Moat family were out in force in the 1300 Stock Cars.

Despite a recent upgrading to blue, it was John who showed his boys the quicker way round the track with the third place he recorded in his heat being the best the family did all night.

John picked up a place in the final, coming home in ninth - with Shane following him across the line in tenth.

Dean also picked up a tenth place in his heat, whilst Tom Alsop had a difficult night as a first time red and failed to get a top ten finish.

There is a break this weekend with no action at King’s Lynn, with a busy weekend coming over July 2-3 with F1 Stock Cars and the Unlimited Banger War of the Worlds taking place.

Micro Bangers, Junior Bangers and Unlimited Lady Bangers take place on 3 July.
