March boss pulls no punches after league defeat at Coventry United in the United Counties League Premier Division South
March Town boss Ash Taylor says his players didn't reach the levels he expects of them as they suffered an FA Vase hangover on Saturday.
The Hares suffered a 2-0 defeat at Coventry United in the UCL Premier Division South as they dropped down a place to fourth in the league standings.
Taylor pulled no punches after the final whistle saying: "They deserved to win the game, 100 per cent. They had more desire than us to win a game of football today, it's pretty simple.
"We had a chat before the game about the highs of the Vase and not getting too casual and sloppy with our mentality and approach to things.
"Basically, everything I asked the players not to happen did happen and we've had a very bad day today, there's no fluffing it up.
"Individually we weren't good enough, that's the reality and the lads know that. Some words were said in the changing room with my reflections and thoughts on it.
"It was a frustrating day when the opposition wanted it more than us. They won more duels than us and sometimes that can happen. We didn't have the right attitude and the players have got to take a look at themselves.
"If we lose a game of football and we've put the right amount of effort in, I'll be the first to say that we lost a game of football to the better side but we've lost that game by going through the motions and that's hard to take."
A brace from Dylan Parker, who scored a goal in either half, condemned March to their third league defeat of the campaign.
The March boss tried to change tactics at the break - but the team's performance remained stale.
"We had to try to change things," admitted Taylor.
"We had to tactically change it and dor ten minutes of the second half we started really well, but then the game went flat again and there was no momentum from us.
"The only player who impacted anything when he came on was Harry Biggs. I thought he showed the quality that I wanted to see, looking after the ball and making the right decisions.
"Everyone else for me today were below their levels. We've got to look at ourselves as a group and there have been some honest words.
"In the past, our bench has really changed things and had a real impact on the game but today it didn't.
"We are a good team with the ball and that's what has disappointed me - our decision-making and speed of thought with the ball.
"I didn't feel second half that we were ever going to score and it's not often I feel like that. You have to give the opposition some credit for the way they defended and for being organised but it just didn't happen for us."
The Hares have a quick chance to put things right when they travel to Whittlesey Athletic in the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Wednesday night before another trip on the road to Hinckley AFC on Saturday.
"We will make changes. It's a competition we want to do well in and I want to get through to the semi-finals.
"The lads that were on the bench today will start Wednesday. Whittlesey have recently changed their management and have been doing well and it's never an easy place to go.
"A game like that will be good for us. We will need to show some fight and I'm looking forward to seeing that."
