Fenland athletes faced with lots of mud in latest round of the Frostbite League
Frostbite seems to be a bit like buses, you wait for one and then two come in quick succession.
Last week it was the frost element at a frozen Bawsey, this week the bite in the form of mud and lots of it from all accounts and the bedraggled runners going through the finish line.
The organisers had warned that trail shoes should be a considered choice of footwear, alas some did not heed this advice and found the course to be very challenging in some places.
Fenland runners were again out on force, this time 13 of its club runners tackling the conditions to bring the team home in a very respectable 11/16 on the day.
However, it was not enough to hold onto its overall league position, slipping one place to 9/16.
With one more event left in the series, the mid-table position is all still to play for with just 10 points separating sixth to ninth.
The individual results of the Fenland club members from a field of 353 were as follows: 88th Martin Jennings, 104th Ant Kennedy, 110th Lee Wright, 124th Tom Richards, 192nd Carol Bowett, 224th Hayley Missin, 240th Nicky Jennings, 268th Maire Kay, 272nd Adrian Searle, 274th Ian King, 288th Jac Richards, 335th Gilly Anderson, 337th Carly Read.
Elsewhere, Kate Woodcock took to the roads and paths near Easton where she took on the Easton College Valentines 10km and she didn't disappoint.
Woodcock clocked an impressive PB of 46:26, finishing 279/898 and 20th in her age category where 144 were found to be competing.
After the race, she said: "It's taken two years to get that PB. It goes to show that dedication and hard work do indeed pay dividends, even this late in the road running season."
