Fenland drains are being left untouched
Some of the best Fenland drain fishing for many years have been left virtually untouched this season.
So it seems as though anglers still prefer to fish the local still waters.
But those that have ventured onto the drains have been rewarded with some fine sport.
The Twenty Foot is in great form with both tench and bream showing to a worm and caster approach from Goosetree Corner through to Chain Bridge and beyond.
The North Level Drain has also hit top form, again bream, skimmers and tench have been taken.
In the Wednesday Tydd Gote open, fished on the North Level drain, the top rod with a net of skimmers and bream was John Young, who weighed in 21lb 7oz.
Runner-up with 7lb 12oz was Mick Asker, with John Taylor third with 7lb 1oz.
In the Thursday club match, Andy Greenwood was top rod with 4lb 9oz, while on Sunday Paul Bawden came out on top with 6lb 1oz.
Runner-up with 5lb 13oz was Andrew Kilby, followed by Ray Groom with 5lb 12oz.
The open match at Townsend Fishery fished on the Woodpecker Pool saw Geoff Arnold topping the field from peg eight.
He caught 40lb of silvers on caster, fished shallow then switched to the margins on worm to catch carp and barbel to finish with 111lb 14oz.
Not far behind with 101lb 12oz was Nigel Wright on peg six, who fished sweetcorn in the margins, followed by Dave Rodwell with 80lb on a small method feeder.
In the Chatteris Workingmen’s Club match, it was Steve Newell out in front with 7lb 15oz.
His catch included a tench and bream.
Just behind with a level 7lb was Peter Cornwell, then came Derek Leek on 1lb 3oz.
Fenland Rods fished the popular Horseshoe Pool on the Decoy Lakes complex on Sunday where Kev Lee and Mac Campbell had a peg-to-peg battle for first place on pegs 12 and 13 respectively.
At the final whistle it was Lee topping the list. He struggled at the start but found plenty of fish close in late on to finish on 133lb 10oz.
Campbell enjoyed a steady match, catching well all day, and came close on 131lb 7oz.
Third place went to John Garner with 118lb 4oz.
In the Saturday £1,000 qualifier at Rookery Waters, the top rod was Richard Bond with 125lb 8oz of carp taken from peg 38 on the Jay Lake.
Second place went to Steve Freeman with 97lb with Graham Welton in third with 68lb 12oz.
In the Thursday £1,000 qualifying open on Jay Lake, Simon Easy, from peg two, caught on meat for 124lb 8oz.
Runner-up was Tom Cole who caught on pellet and corn for 103lb 4oz followed by Dave Rawlings with 90lb 8oz.
Spratt’s AC put together one of the best results of the year so far on the Oak Pool at Decoy Lakes.
Mick Raby put a huge 246lb 6oz net of carp to the scales catching on cat meat close in.
Runner-up with 207lb 1oz was Trevor Cousins who fished the same method, as did Terry Tribe who finished third with 193lb 4oz.
Top rod in the latest Buttonhole Fishery Tuesday open match was Nathan Gooden, who fished pellet close to the island. He came into the margins late on in the match to top the field with 118lb.
Runner-up was Andy Lawrence with 121lb taken on a short pole line shallow with meat and Andrew Carter came third on 82lb.
