Fenland drivers in the thick of the action at King’s Lynn race track
There were some great performances from Fenland drivers at the weekend when the unlimited bangers were in action together with F1 and F2 stock cars.
James Licquorice continued his amazing 2024 season by piling on plenty more entertainer league points as he helped guide the Aftermath team to victory in the Entertainer Points in the unlimited banger War of the Worlds competition.
In doing so, Licquorice is in the unique position of being one of a handful of drivers who have ever won the Entertainer Points in both the 2L and unlimited versions of the War of the Worlds in the same season having been an integral part of the Dover Boys who took the title for the 2L bangers a couple of weeks ago.
Rhys Parrin, 16, also had a night to remember as the former junior banger points champion took place in his first unlimited banger meeting at King’s Lynn and showed classy control of the rear wheel drive large engine class to take a fantastic win in the meeting final.
Parrin did not put a wheel out of place in the race and once he spun out Dutchman Berry Knoeff who he had battled with over the first few laps.
His win never looked in doubt as a chasing group of experienced names, including Ireland’s former World Champion Steve McGrath never looked like closing the gap and Parrin’s final win was instrumental in his team – the Aftermath Young Guns coming second in the race points in the competition.
Kieran Gray had a good night racing for the Predators with a couple of top-three finishes whilst the Mad Mob, which included Lee Barnes and Nathan and Nicky Young, were in the middle of the action throughout and just missed out on the silverware finishing in fourth place in the Entertainer League.
Callum Gill had a good night in the F1 stock cars where he survived a last-bend attack by former World Champion Charlie Sworder to take victory in one of the heats.
He was doing well in the Dave Leonard Memorial Final when he crashed out with fellow Wisbech racer Dave Polley before coming home in eighth place in the Grand National.
Polley also had a decent night with a second and fourth place in his heats before failing to finish in the final due to the aforementioned incident with Gill with World Champion Tom Harris from Altrincham taking the win.
Polley was hampered towards the end of the Grand National with a front puncture so was delighted to come home in second.
Bradley Blyth was also in action in the F1s with an eleventh place in the third heat being his best finish as he had a whole host of bad luck throughout the night.
Sam Russell was very unlucky in the opening heat in the F2 stock cars when he looked on course to take his first win only to come under attack on the last bend from Leicester’s Ben Woodhull.
Russell was left stuck on the outside of the track which was very sludgy for the opening races following heavy rain and once he got going came home in sixth place.
That was San’s only top 10 of the night but he will have been encouraged with his pace as he posted the twelfth fastest lap of the night! Alfie Allard came home in ninth place in the same race.
Daniel Horsepool and Jess Ward had a tough night as they were both heavily involved in the action and failed to get any top ten finishes. Middlewich’s Kyle Taylor took victory in the final.
