Fenland drivers catch the eye at annual King’s Lynn meeting
Fenland drivers were in action in some fantastic-looking cars at King’s Lynn on Saturday when the annual Pre 80 Banger meeting took place.
Racing was also supported by the junior bangers with a special Pre-95 meeting.
Fenland's best representation came in the unders where Simon Rolph – known to most as Mr Mint - was making a rare appearance and had one of the cars of the night with his highly rated Austin Devon.
Mark Whittaker was seen in a Corolla whilst Jack Maryon was in action in a Standard 8 and Billy Bond was in a Marina.
Rolph claimed a fourth spot and also won an entertainer award with a brilliant display in the Destruction Derby which he easily could have won.
Jack Maryon also won an entertainer award following a brilliant crowd-pleasing display in the final which he left his already small Standard 8 even shorter.
Whittaker looked like he had never been away and was rapid particularly in the opening race when he took the chequered flag.
James Licquorice won an entertainer award while James Cable was also in the thick of the action and produced a rated performance to also take home an entertainer award.
As expected, the junior banger Pre 95 meeting sponsored by Jack Garrod’s MOT & vehicle Repairs saw the youngsters in some impressive machinery.
The pick of the bunch was Manson Arnold in his sensational Morris Minor with Lincoln Douglas also piloting one of these whilst Riley Crowson’s fantastic 1959 Mk1 Austin A40 Farina was also an amazing machine.
Levi Murkin took his Corsa B to two heat wins before Saffron Walden’s Nicola Want won the meeting final.
Racing returns to King’s Lynn on Saturday (5pm) when the BriSCA F2 stock cars are in action along with the 2L stock cars and the 1600cc bangers who will be contesting the East Anglian Teams.
