Fenland drivers in the thick of stock car action at King’s Lynn
Fenland drivers were in the thick of the action when the 2024 National stock car season opened at King’s Lynn on Saturday.
Track conditions for the early races were far from ideal due to heavy rain during the preceding week and earlier in the day.
However, after the third race, a lot of work took place on the track which produced a far better race surface for the rest of the meeting.
Sonny Parsons and Barty Ketteringham were in action in the opening race for the 1300 stock cars with Ketteringham coming home in seventh place and Parsons in ninth.
The Moats – father John and sons Dean and Shane - put in some good drives in the heats.
John came home in a strong third place in the first heat proper with Dean finishing in seventh place in his first race from Superstar.
Better was to come from John in the second heat when he hit the front on the tenth lap and was then involved in a ding-dong battle with Shane until the chequered flag.
The older Moat showed Shane that he still knew a quick way around the circuit in a 1300 stock car.
Norwich’s Tyler Bloomfield won the meeting final with Sonny Wright being our first driver home in a solid sixth place.
Shane Moat will be pleased to have recorded the third fastest lap of the night as he debuted his new car whilst Sonny Wright was also showing plenty of speed throughout the night recording the fifth fastest lap of the night.
Sam Russell had a frustrating night in the F2 stock cars and he failed to finish a race all night.
