All roads lead to King’s Lynn for Fenland drivers in huge unlimited banger race
The biggest race in the world of unlimited bangers takes place at King’s Lynn this Saturday (5pm).
The Unlimited Banger Lowman Race Engines World of Shale takes centre stage at the Adrian Flux Arena.
Racing also takes place for the 2L stock cars that will contest the prestigious Bumper Trophy.
A simply massive turnout of more than 140 cars is booked into race with drivers travelling from all over Mainland Europe and Ireland to contest the title which is currently held by Sheffield’s Ricki Finney.
The coveted title and the chance to paint two gold stripes on the roof of their car for the next 12 months is what every National Banger driver wants and local drivers have made a concerted effort to qualify for this race with several being rewarded with a spot on the grid.
Rhys Parrin, 16, who was racing junior bangers at the start of the year will be looking to become the youngest ever winner of the championship – and it would not be a massive shock if the fairytale was to become a reality.
Parrin was National Points Champion in the Junior formula and his performances in the Unlimited Bangers have so far belied his experience in full contact bangers.
His experience in rear-wheel drive cars and his final victory at the War of the Worlds back in July helped to cement his grid position.
It is no surprise that James Licqourice has qualified for the race with one of the top positions in the Unlimited Entertainer Points following an outstanding 2024 season.
Licqourice has shown on many occasions though that he is as quick as anyone around King’s Lynn and can race with the quickest there is.
Current points leader Brad Bartram has also qualified for the big race and although he is more known for his performances in front wheel drive cars he is certainly no slouch in rear-wheel drive ones and if he gets the right breaks he could be up there with the top guys.
Nathan Young qualified for the World of Shale for the first time and it will be a special night for the Young family as he will be joined on the grid by brother Nicky.
Expect the celebrations to go on long into the night if one of these two pick up the title.
Lee Barnes has also qualified for the championship for the first time following a brilliant qualifying campaign and Kieran Gray also makes the grid for the first time in a few seasons.
Joe Geeves qualified for the 2023 World of Shale Championship through the last chance race and he will be aiming to do that again on Saturday whilst Andrew Parrin will also be doing everything he can to join Rhys and make the grid.
