Fenland athlete maintains perfect record of medalling at every Paralympic Games in Paris
Jody Cundy maintained his perfect record of medalling at every Paralympic Games by successfully defending the mixed team sprint in Paris.
Cundy, who was born in Wisbech and grew up in Walpole St Andrew, struck gold alongside Kadeena Cox and Jaco Van Gass as the British trio regained their crown at the Paris Velodrome.
The British crossed the line in a time of 47.738s to beat Spain by almost two seconds in the medal race.
The Fenland-born athlete has now won at least one medal at each of the eight Paralympic Games since his debut in Atlanta in 1996 - and six of those have been gold.
Cody has now represented Great Britain at eight Summer Paralympics winning nine golds, one silver and three bronze medals across swimming and cycling events.
Twenty-eight years ago, the 45-year-old made his debut at Atlanta 1996 and won his first medal.
Now, at Paris 2024, he has won his latest. He has won at least one medal in each of his Paralympic appearances.
For Cundy, it's his sixth gold medal in track cycling and 13th overall, including the swimming medal he won in Atlanta in 1996.
Now living in Manchester, Cundy has had a unique sporting career, winning his first gold medal in para-swimming (100m butterfly) and continuing to swim until Athens 2004 (three gold and two bronze medals).
From Beijing 2008 onwards, he swapped his swimsuit for a bike and has since gone on to win six Paralympic titles, a silver medal and a bronze medal in the velodrome.
He was awarded the MBE in 2008 for his services to disability sport and then was promoted to OBE for his services to swimming and cycling in 2017, before becoming a CBE in 2021 for his services to cycling.
In 2010 he was given the Freedom of Wisbech, with an open-top bus parade and civic reception.
He has been supported every step of the way by his parents Ann and Alan, who now live in Long Sutton.
Lasy year, Cundy, who was born with a deformed foot, which was amputated at the age of three, was part of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing Series, where he was the fourth contestant to leave the show, with dance partner Jowita Przysta.
