Fenland athletes participate at Eye and Bedford




Fenland Running Club had members in action at the Eye charity five-mile, the Flying 5km and another participant taking part in a triathlon relay.

Firstly the Eye charity five-mile which saw nine club members running at this worthwhile cause event on what was to prove a warm and humid day, not conducive to setting personal bests

However, this didn’t stop the enjoyment although first home for Fenland, Richard Agger, had to stop 400 metres from the finish line to help a fellow runner who was suffering from the heat.

The runners' results were as follows: Richard Agger 23rd in 33:23, Tom Richards 43rd in 36:40, Stu Follen 45th in 37:02, Martin Jennings 66th in 42:22, Jac Richards 89th in 47:05, Adrian Searle 96th in 49:18, Trevor Sutherill 101st in 50:00, Larissa Follen 105th in 51:04, Jane Greenwood 122 in 55:24.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Tuff continued with his pursuit of better and faster times in his age category turning in a very impressive performance in the Flying 5km.

A course run on a flat fast runway route, here again, conditions were hot and humid with little respite from the elements.

His performance statistics were as follows.

Time: 18:09, age category position 1/26, overall position 33/336.

Finally, one Fenland Running Club member found time to complete a leg of the Bedford Triathlon team relays.

Jane Clarke completed a 750m swim, 23km ride, and 5km run for her team which was run on an off-road course of undulating and uneven grass.

The team came home as third in the Vet Ladies category.
