Valencia and Bury St Edmunds are the destinations for Fenland athletes

As the road racing season nears its end the need to travel becomes a must to seek out that next challenge, and three Fenland Running Club members stepped up to meet the challenge this week.

In Valencia, Fenland's own Kate Woodcock took on the challenge of the Valencia Marathon which is run on a flat and generally fast course travelling along the streets of the historic city, taking in the many tourist attractions.

Woodcock clocked a very respectful and impressive time of 3:54:47, well inside the four-hour mark.

Not to be outdone, two other Fenland runners also travelled, but not quite as far, Bury St Edmonds to be precise, where Nikki Young took on the Zig Zag half Marathon.

The course starts on the all-weather track before taking to footpaths and road sections of Bury St Edmonds.

Young finished in an impressive time of 2:11:58, and a position of 60th/199, which given the challenging weather conditions and course is very respectful.

Running a not-so-far distance but on a just as tough and challenging course, not helped by it being a late entry, as Miles is quoted as

saying: "I only went to support Nikki," said Miles who joined the club with Young.

Miles tackled the Zig Zag Christmas Canter 10km, which whilst being hilly and a tad wet, and having not raced the distance for eight years he succeeded in taking two minutes off his last 10km time, finishing in a position of 25/83 in a great time of 57:28, proving yet again what individual dedication and great coaching can achieve when brought together.
