FRC trio conquer first time swim, bike and three lap challenge
Fenland Running Club were out in force at the Outlaw Holkham Half Ironman representing the club in the Triathlon, 10K and 2.5K Dash Fun Run.
This was alongside volunteering for key crew roles.
The triathlon was the highlight – with a swim of 1.2 miles in the Holkham lake, bike race of 56 miles and three laps within the Holkham estate. Three members conquered the challenge along with three relay teams.
At the trio’s first attempt at such a distance, Ellen Connolly completed her triathlon in true style with a swim 43:35, bike 3:27:18 and run 2:04:14; her total time 6:22:12.
Larissa Follen gritted it out to achieve her goal of sub 7 hours – swim 46:06, bike 3:44:05 and run 2:18:57; her total time 6:54:35.
Chris Anderson, a novice to this sort of event, finished in 7:46:59 with a swim 57:25, bike 3:47:31 and run 2:54:27.
The Fenland Triers relay team came in first with Stuart Follen swim 43:12, Alan Bird bike 2:48:22 and Rod Sinnott run 1:36:47; their total time 5:11:37.
The Fenland Firecrackers followed with a cracking swim by Liz Rowell in 33:34, Carl Murley bike 2:40:42 – despite severe cramp – and Sarah Gauvin run 1:57:23; total time 5:14:39. The Dinky Jaybirds were: Sharon Bird swim 56:06, Denise Griffin bike 3:32:38 and Jay Gilbert run 2:01:44; total time 6:33:11.
In the Holkham 10K midday Rimvydas Muduras, competing in his first-ever 10K, was overjoyed to record 39:08 and an outstanding 10th overall in a field of 828. Andre Pittock ran 47:05 followed by Ian King in 51:12 and Sally King with a course PB of 1:19:33.
In the 2.5K Dash Fun Run, Sarah Gauvin’s son Henry Pittock completed the course in 12:41 coming 72nd out of 190 finishers, with Ellen Connolly’s son Shay recording 12:47 and coming 79th.
Chris Anderson’s son Bernie followed in 15:02 and Hannah Ryan’s sons Thomas and Oliver demonstrated teamwork coming in 17:18 and 18:06 respectively.
