Wisbech move into top 10 of United Counties League North standings with Heanor home win
Wisbech Town boss Alex Street was full of praise for his players after seeing them return to winning ways against Heanor Town at Fountain Fresh Park.
The three points saw the Fenmen leapfrog Heanor into tenth place in the United Counties League North standings.
After the game, a delighted Street said: "We were very disappointed after Pinchbeck and we haven't trained much over that period because of the weather.
"It's very wet out the back and before the game we had a few words with each other to sort our expectations going forward as a team.
"Like I've said before, they're young, but I needed to see more from them. We had a very good training session Thursday and that showed with our performance today.
"From minute one I had my strikers link up play. Toby (Allen) was outstanding up there for long periods of the game, Amir (Ward) ran his socks off and Andre (Williams) linked up well with them.
"Harry (Grigas) had a great debut. We've got to get him a bit fitter but he had a hell of a debut with a great strike and my defence stood up and were counted for.
"I'm a bit disappointed with goals but that's what this league is about. It's tough and people create chances and let's be honest, it's a good cross, and a great goal for their first and the second was a bit scrappy.
"The penalty has been given our favour and I thought the referee had a good game.
"The linesman got a bit of stick for the third, but that wasn't offside and it was a great tackle from Harry, who chased a lost cause, won the block to put us through.
"That was the desire that we've missed really in there. I know we've had people like John Challinor but to have someone with a bit of fight to come in and do something different and drive it on.
"Ollie (Williams) and Ethan (Wilson) were outstanding in the middle of the park and worked their socks off all game and like I say from 1 to 16 a day, I thought the squad gave everything.
"That showed with the result and I was really impressed with the performance."
The Fenmen received a pre-game boost when club legend Mel Mattless returned to the fray on Friday, coming in as assistant to manager Street.
Wisbech opened the scoring in the 25th minute when former Crowland Town player Grigas, who signed for the club this week, drilled one into the roof of the net.
Keaton August equalised for the visitors two minutes before the break but Toby Allen restored the home lead after 64 minutes from the penalty spot with his 16th of the season.
Five minutes later, Andre Williams made it 3-1 after being put through by Grigas.
Heanor’s keeper was sent off for dissent in the 72nd minute but James Taylor pulled one back for The Lions with six minutes remaining.
However, substitute Rob Conyard rounded off a great team performance and sealed the 4-2 victory with his seventh of the campaign in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
