Wisbech prepare for Gresley test on the back of home draw against promotion hopefuls AFC Mansfield

Wisbech Town manager Luke Hipwell felt a point was the least his side deserved after holding promotion-chasing AFC Mansfield to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Dual-registered striker Sam Bennett gave the Fenmen an 11th-minute lead at Fountain Fresh Park and that’s the way it stayed until the break.

However, five minutes into the second half, the visitors equalised through Ryan Ingram to return home with a share of the spoils from the United Counties Premier North clash.

Hipwell said: "I think it's one point gained as opposed to two being dropped today.

"The chairman did a brilliant job to get the game on and in terms of everyone associated with the club it was a massive effort from all of them.

"I picked a side looking at the conditions. We went with the wind in the first half and started on the front foot.

"Benno has hit the bar with a great strike and then we've scored from a set-piece. The only thing I was disappointed with is that we didn't try to capitalise on that by upping the tempo.

"They started to grow into the game and got accustomed to the conditions but overall I felt we deserved to be leading at half-time on the balance of play.

"I don't think Lake's has had a save to make and we've switched off at their corner, which was a really well-worked corner, for their goal.

"It's another point to add to the total so we are heading in the right direction."

Hipwell has passed on his best wishes to defender Max Matless, who continues to recover from a recent injury.

"My well wishes go to Max, who has been brilliant since I came to the club," he said.

The Fenmen remain 16th in the league standings and on Saturday travel to Gresley who sit one place above Hipwell's side in the table.

"We're still in that group of seven so we must pick up points when we play teams in that cluster," said the Wisbech boss.

"They've got a new manager so they will have a little bit of momentum and they were unlucky not to come away with something from their home game against Sleaford."

Wisbech Town: Lakin, Williams, Wilson, Barker, Harris, Braham, Bennett, Falcao (Papworth-Boston 73), Conyard, Langford (Nicholson 54), Lennon (Foster 66). Subs (not used): Hoyle, Cavozzi.
