Wisbech show improvement despite UCL Premier Division North loss to Loughborough Students

Wisbech Town manager Alex Street felt his side deserved something from the game after slipping to a slender 1-0 defeat against Loughborough Students.

The defeat leaves Wisbech third from bottom of the UCL Premier Division North and just five points from the relegation zone.

Speaking after the game, Street said: "I thought our performance was actually pretty good considering last week.

"Everyone put real effort in and we had a go at a team who are very organised. They're a good side and their front player is a very good little player.

"It was a game of fine margins. We had a couple of chances where a quicker through ball or a touch here and we were in.

"It was just some of our decision-making but let's remember we are still a young squad who are building and progressing."

The students scored the only goal after 49 minutes when a tidy turn from Ryan Hayes on the edge of the box saw him beat his man and slot it home in the bottom corner.

"We've added a bit of experience so hopefully we can start turning some of those losses into wins," added Street.

"That could have gone either way today. I was disappointed with the defeat but I wasn't disappointed with our performance.

Before the game, the Fenmen announced the signings of three players.

Bermudan International Harry Twite has arrived at Fountain Fresh Park, on loan from King's Lynn, along with Michael Frew and Jon Challinor from Stamford.

Tonight, Wisbech host Cambs County League Premier Division outfit West Wratting in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup.
