Wisbech Town manager tears into players after 'heartless' performance against Boston
Wisbech Town 0, Boston Town 2
United Counties League Premier Division North
Manager Leon Mettam roasted his players after they were beaten at home for the first time this season on Tuesday night, to a Boston side full of former Fenmen.
The Poachers included Luke Wilson, Liam Adams, Harry Limb, Layton Maddison and Fraser Bayliss in their side as they coasted to victory at Fountain Fresh Park.
Mettam said: "That was horrendous, tragic, heartless, rubbish. From minute one to minute 98 we were not at the races. I've been in the game for 20 years and that is one of the worst performances I have seen."
The Fenmen could have been three or four down at the break as keeper Luke Pearson kept them in the game with some good saves.
However, within two minutes of the restart Bayliss scored, and 15 minutes later, Richard Ford made it 2-0.
Mettam added: "The players need to look at themselves. They are not fit enough, they looked like they've never played the game. They had no desire, passion or heart – it was a bad night all round.
"I said at half time that we could have been eight down were it not for Luke Pearson, and he is the only player who comes out with any credit.
"We were all over the place, we were whacking five yard passes at each other. Just like at Loughborough, I roasted them at the break but then they still went out and let in goals, which suggests they have no heart or they think they are better than they are.
"They huffed and puffed and ran around a little bit but with no direction, no knowledge of what to do with the ball. We're at home and we didn't even have a shot. That's probably the thing that breaks me the most. My head is spinning.
"We have brought in a squad clearly capable of doing things as we've got some good results. If they play like that again on Saturday it tells me everything I need to know."
