Wisbech face Shirebrook Town in relegation six-pointer after crucial win against Kimberley Miners Welfare in the UCL Premier Division North
Wisbech Town have a big chance to put more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone when they host Shirebrook Town in a huge six-pointer on Saturday.
The Fenmen did their UCL Premier Division survival hopes the power of good with a 1-0 victory against Kimberley Miners Welfare at the weekend.
Now manager Luke Hipwell wants his players to back that win up by beating their relegation-threatened visitors at Fountain Fresh Park.
Hipwell said: "Saturday was an important win for us and I've always said that on our day we are capable of beating anyone in this league and we proved that against Bourne who are absolutely flying at the minute and credit to them.
"The supporters were great for us on Saturday and there was a really big crowd. I'm not sure of the attendance but I'm really thankful for their support. As I've said before, it's a lovely feeling coming off at the end to that ovation.
"Every game in this league is competitive and if you are not at it then you'll get found out.
"Fair play to Shirebrook for beating Deeping and looking at the other results it was important that we got a win.
"It is more about what we do and it's about building momentum. There will be bumps in the road and I do think the last three games we lost before Saturday were nip-and-tuck games and they were against side in the top ten.
"We've got to make sure that we beat the teams around us and we've managed to do that so far and I think the only blemish was Hucknall at home.
"It will be another tough test and Shirebrook will be galvanised following their win against Deeping today.
"We'll prepare right in the week and work on a few things and I think we should have a few players back.
"I think against Kimberley, the work rate, effort and desire to play for this football club was there for everyone to see."
The dual-signed Michael Frew settled any nerves on Saturday by firing the Fenmen in front after 25 minutes.
And that's the way it stayed as the home side picked up their fifth victory of the campaign to give them a four-point cushion above the drop zone.
"I think it was a little bit of a bottom-of-the-table relegation scrap at times," said Hipwell.
"I think both teams were a little bit edgy initially and it was quite frenetic during certain periods of the game, but I think on reflection we were good value for the three points.
"We had the better chances, I just don't think we took them, and the scoreline could have been a little more comfortable than it actually was.
"When you are only winning 1-0 in the last minutes of a game it can become edgy then as well.
"It was a well-worked goal from us and I was pleased with the way we worked it because we were patient and we crossed the ball at the right opportunity rather than trying to force a cross.
"We had a golden chance in the latter part of the half to make it 2-0 but I think Lenny (Ryan Lennon) was in two minds of how he was going to finish it and probably snatched at it.
"But it will come. I thought he was excellent today, his work rate and creativity were very, very good.
"I think in terms of the game as a whole we had the better chances second half but didn't take them for varying reasons, whether it be execution or our decision-making, but we are getting in the right positions and I'm proud of the group today."
