Wisbech Town confirm Jenk Acar as captain and Max Mattless as vice-captain for 2023/24 season

Wisbech Town have confirmed their new captain and vice-captain as the start of the new season edges closer.

Jenk Acar will be wearing the captain’s armband for the Fenmen’s 2023/24 campaign, while Max Mattless serve as his deputy.

Manager Leon Mettam spoke of his delight after both players agreed to stay at the club.

“Jenk has become a fan favourite over the course of a short space of time, so I’m thrilled that he’s wanting to continue with us,” he said.

“In the games that Kegan (Everington) was missing, Jenk filled that role with no problems at all.

“It’s just a natural transition for him.”

Mettam added: “I’m very pleased Max is staying. He came to the club in difficult times and showed real leadership when it would have been easier for him to stay where he was.

“Max proved that he wanted to play for Wisbech and became an integral part of what finished a real positive season.”

The Fenmen have also found out their first league fixture of the new United Counties League Premier Division North campaign.

The opening day clash will be part of the UCL ground-hop programme, with Mettam’s side travelling to Hucknall Town for a 5pm kick-off on July 29.

They will start their pre-season preparations for that clash with a friendly fixture at home to Heacham on July 1.

That will be followed by five more run-outs against Ruston Sports, Eynesbury Rovers, Ely City, Swaffham Town and Grimsby Boro.
