Wisbech Town will start their pre-season friendlies tomorrow against Parson Drove after Holbeach United match was cancelled
Wisbech Town will get their pre-season campaign under way tomorrow after the friendly they had planned for last week was called off.
The Fenmen were due to play Holbeach United at the weekend, but the match was cancelled a day before.
Wisbech manager Brett Whaley said: "Holbeach weren’t able to get a side together unfortunately. It was a late call-off, we didn’t find out until Friday.
"It was disappointing for us because obviously we had all our plans in place, but I understand that sometimes these things happen. Sometimes teams have injuries or call-offs."
Having now organised a replacement friendly against Parson Drove for tomorrow night, Whaley is excited to get started.
"Yeah, we're desperate to get going," he said. "When you’ve planned and got a game ready to go and it gets called off, you’re desperate to get another one organised.
"Having planned pre-season, the level of opposition was where we wanted it. If we missed the first game and went straight into a first game against Peterborough Sports next Saturday, that would probably have been a step too far for us.
"We always felt we wanted a game before that, so it’s really important we get it going.
"Parson Drove are a side on the up and it’s good to get another game arranged so quickly. If we hadn’t, we would have been under a lot of pressure this Saturday and that’s not what you want in pre-season."
