Wisbech through to next round of FA Vase but March and Parson Drove crash out
Keeper Luke Pearson was the hero as Wisbech Town won their Isuzu FA Vase Second Round Qualifying tie at home to Eynesbury Rovers this afternoon. But March Town and Parson Drove crashed out at the same stage.
The score at Fountain Fresh Park in this United Counties League Premier Division North v Premier Division South tie was goalless at the break, before Josh Marshall gave Rovers a 66th minute lead. New signing Chris Assombalonga levelled in the 78th minute for Wisbech, to take the tie to penalties.
Rovers netted their first spot kick to make it 1-0 and then George Zeurner missed for Wisbech. The visitors’ second effort was hit wide before Kegan Everington made it 1-1.
Rovers netted their third to put them 2-1 up but then keeper Pearson scored to make it 2-2. Pearson then saved, Chris Ward scored for Wisbech and the Wisbech stopper saved again to seal the win.
The Fenmen will find out their First Round opponents on Monday, with the game to be played on October 22.
United Counties League Premier Division South high fliers March Town travelled to play fellow Step 5 side Norwich United, also riding high, in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division.
The Hares conceded after 17 minutes to Jordan Buttle and found themselves 2-0 down at the break when Alby Matthews scored in first half stoppage time.
Sam Green pulled one back for March in the 51st minute but further goals from Joel Watts and Zach Bourner in the final 15 minutes made the final score 4-1 to the home team.
Parson Drove entertained fellow Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division North side Norwich CBS.
An outclassed Drove we’re 3-0 down within 20 minutes, Jaden Snelling and Charlie Clarke with a brace netting. Drove pulled one back from the spot through Scott Waumsley, but Payton Swatman soon made in four and an own goal made it 5-1 at the break.
