Upwell are county champions
Newly-formed Upwell Town twice came from behind to win the Norfolk Primary Cup final on Saturday.
The North West Norfolk League team beat fellow Division Two outfit Watlington Sports and
Social Club 3-2 – and played much of the second half with 10 men after a sending off.
Re-formed for the 2020/21 season, Upwell were third in the division when it came to a premature end because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Watlington were top.
Town started their cup run in the third round thanks to a bye and a walkover. They made their intentions clear with a 7-0 win against KLSC Reserves. Another walkover set up a long away trip in the quarter-finals to a strong Yaxham team, winning 4-1 on spot-kicks.
A semi-final against 2018 winners, Gayton United Reserves looked on paper to be a challenging game, but a convincing 4-1 win put them in the final, held at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe, Norwich.
