Bird leads Fenland Running Club’s biggest weekend to date
Twenty degrees centigrade and light wind was the setting for Fenland Running Club’s biggest weekend to date.
First up was the Outlaw Nottingham Half triathlon event consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run.
Alan Bird dug deep to cross the line ahead of Stuart Follen by four minutes in a real close call all round. Alan finished in 5:21:25, Follen finished just behind with 5:25:12.
Next triathlon up was Slateman a swim surrounded with mountains, a bike course in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and a run through an awesome slate quarry.
The race offers a unique mix of incredible scenery and challenge with a carnival atmosphere; and Sarah Rippon blasted the course to finish in 4:55:26
At Grantham the Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile mud and obstacle course designed to drag you out of your comfort zone by testing your physical strength, stamina, and mental grit. With no podiums, winners, or clocks to race against, it’s a challenge that emphasizes teamwork and camaraderie. Aaron Petts took up this challenge alongside four of his friends and completed the course in 3:40:01.
Next up was the Hughes Sublime Swaffham 10k Race, virtually a straight out and back 10k road race. The start is on West Acre road where it meets Bears Lane.
This is a few minutes’ walk from the Green Britain Centre. It heads out for about three miles before turning around and making its way back to the Green Britain Centre via Bears Lane.
The course is undulating with gentle changes in gradient and that is what brought 26 Fenland runners to the start line. First man home was Andrew Plume with a blistering heat time of 37:04. Hot on his heels was Rod Sinnott with 41:29, 40 seconds later John Shaw hit the finish line.
First female home was Claudia Milburn in 46:39 and 44 seconds later Carol Bowett crossed the line. Ian Milburn followed Carol to win his category group.
