A sizzling strike by former Fenmen forward Chris Bacon has earned him one of five runners-up spots in Budweiser Dream Goal, a hunt for the UK’s best amateur goal of the season, and analysed by Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp and Ed Chamberlin.

The goal, the second in a 4-1 win, was scored on October 27 at home to Peterborough Northern Star.

Bacon, who left the Fenmen in December, said: “It is really nice that Budweiser are doing something like this for grassroots football.

“It’s fantastic they are donating money as there are a lot of clubs with financial difficulties who need the money at their respective levels.

“I’m not sure if it’s the best goal I’ve scored or not as I scored quite a few good ones for Cambridge City.

“Any goal is nice, but if it can put a smile on people’s faces then it is even better.”

Since leaving the Fenmen, Bacon went on to score 12 goals in as many games for Mildenhall Town in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, who have since put him on a contract.

Bacon’s exquisite strike has earned him £10,000 for the non-league club of his choice.
