Spalding Inter Services Trophy Semi-Final

Long Sutton Athletic 0 Tydd St Mary 2

Giant-killers from PDFL Division Three Tydd made the short journey up the A1101 to beat Division One side Athletic.

Tydd started the brighter with good attacking play and Darren Rawthorn was chopped down on the right, just inside the Sutton half on eight minutes. Stu Easey delivered a delightful ball into the box, Scott Pemberton flicked it on and Rawthorn volleyed in from four yards out.

Both sides had chances during the rest of the half with Tim Lowe going close and The Magpies hitting the post.

After a rousing team talk from management trio, Carl Wilson, Daniel Monaghan and Calvin Leuty, Tydd ‘keeper, David Cooper, got his fingertips to a Matt Cawthorne free kick. Cawthorne hit the bar five minutes later.

In the last two minutes Tydd sealed victory when a clever short corner between Nick Ainslie and Nicholas Reims caught out the Magpies defence and Reims netted.

Next weekend the Saints will face Spalding Town in a rehearsal for the final in the ChromaSport & Trophies Intermediate Shield semi at The Castle Sports Complex in Spalding, 1.30pm.
