After gaining the European featherweight boxing title with a stunning knockout win over Karim Guerfi on Sunday, the Chatteris boxer now has the ultimate title in his sights.
“I might have a European title defence, I might go into an eliminator or I might even go straight into a world title fight,” he told Boxing UK the morning after the fight at the O2 Arena in London.
“I am European champion and that is what I’ve been working for. I certainly lived up to my name, The Thrill.
“I started the fight slowly and felt a bit tense with a lot of pressure as this was a must-win fight with everything on the line for me.
“In rounds two and three I started getting into it and then I hurt him in rounds four and five.
“But then I perforated my ear drums and my balance was completely gone.
“He knocked me down in the seventh with a short left hook. I’d never been knocked down with a head shot before but my ears were so bad that I felt I was on a rocking boat.
“I was using the ropes just to prop myself up, and in the end I found the shot.
“I’d caught him in the eighth round with a right hand and saw that had an affect.
“He was working hard to finish the fight and I could see the energy draining out of him so I just had to time it.”
