Leverington Under-17 Girls back to winning ways against March




Leverington Under-17 Girls got back to winning ways with a scintillating 8-1 victory over March Town.

Coming into the game off the back of consecutive defeats and the loss of club captain Charlotte Wheatley, they reacted well with an impressive performance.

With the Hares only able to field nine players, both sides agreed to a 9v9 fixture. Morgan Smith took the armband for Leverington.

And within a couple of minutes of kick-off, Courtney Venni opened the scoring with a lovely left-footed strike.

Leverington continue to apply pressure to a stubborn March defence, and a quick break down the right hand side seen captain Morgan Smith and Harmony Hanton combining well.

A lovely cross from the latter set up top goalscorer Millie McClagish to get back among the goalmouth action after not scoring for for a couple of games.

Leverington continued to dominate, with Deanna Boon having little to do.

More goals arrived via Lauren Davis with two, Courtney Venni with her second and Millie grabbing a brace.

Deanna Boon stole a cheeky goal after coming on as a substitute, while Vicky Sakaviciute fired home the eighth..

March battled well and never gave up despite being a number of goals behind throughout.

They were eventually rewarded with a goal toward the end on the game.

Full praise should go to all of the March players, with a special mention for their goalkeeper - who had a magnificent game.

Sophia Wheatley was awarded the Leverington player of the match award.

She put in a fantastic showing at left-back, winning everything that came her way via a succession of strong tackles

Going forward, she set up plenty of attacks from her left flank position.
