AEK United of Guyhirn and Wisbech St Mary B battle it out for Cambs County 4C title

With only a few games remaining, the battle for the Division 4C title in the Cambs County League looks like it could go down to the wire.

After both leaders AEK United of Guyhirn and second-place Wisbech St Mary B both won again on Saturday, AEK lead Saints by just one point, although they have played a game less than the second-placed side.

The pair meet on March 22 in the semi-final of the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup at Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre.

In the clash between the teams occupying second and second-from-bottom positions, it was lowly Manea United who lost, 1-0 at AFC Mildenhall.

MId-table March Town A drew 0-0 at home with Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) and Chatteris Town Reserves secured a good point with a 1-1 draw at home to third-place Exning United, Sam Bond scoring and Harry Powely named man of the match.

March Town Reserves slip to third in Senior A after defensive lapses saw them lose 3-1 at home to an Orwell side beaten just once in the league all season, Josh Bryant having given The Hares a first-half lead.

Manager Kieran Daplyn said: “It was very disappointing. We are a good side but if you make mistakes against Orwell they will punish you. They are physically strong, well-drilled and organised, with the experience to see out games. That is something we lack at times, but we will regroup and go again.”

In the Premier Division, second-from-bottom Wisbech St Mary lost 4-0 at home to championship-chasing Over Sports.

In Division One of the Peterborough League, Wisbech Town Reserves were thrashed 11-0 at home to Netherton United and bottom side Long Sutton Athletic lost 6-1 at Park Farm Pumas, Jack Baker netting for The Magpies.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 7-1 at home by promotion-chasing Stamford AFC Reserves in Division Three and bottom side Leverington Sports A lost 5-2 at home to Kings Cliffe after leading 2-0 at the break.

With several games in hand, Marshland Saints could still make a run for promotion in the Anglian Combination Division Three North and gave their chances a boost with a 5-1 home win over KLSC, Charlie Dungey netting twice to make it 13 this season and Kieran Bruce with his 26th of the campaign, Bradley Foxwell and Dylan Rust also on target.
