Lee Green and Joe Geeves both win at King’s Lynn stock car racing

Fenland’s drivers contributed to a weather-defying day of racing in King’s Lynn on Saturday.

With several overseas visitors already en-route, the decision was made for the Pre 80 Banger and 1300 Stock Car meeting to go ahead despite heavy rain.

Unsurprisingly, there were several late cancellations – but the drivers and race teams who did attend were applauded for putting on a tremendous show and managing to keep repairing cars despite the conditions.

The conditions played into the hands of some drivers who revel in the wet, and some of our drivers had some fantastic results.

Veteran racer Lee Green has slipped down the grades since his return to racing in the 1300 Stock Cars this season. His perseverance has paid off during the past few months though, as he has steadily been getting quicker and quicker.

He showed the grader why he has made a mistake by putting him to yellow with his first win of 2023, which was backed up with a second-place finish – while he also came home in ninth place in the final.

Sheffield’s Chris Taylor took victory in all the races he was out in, including the final – with Sonny Wright being our best finisher in the final with an eighth place finish to go with a fourth and fifth place in his heats.

World of Shale champion Tom Alsop had two top-six place finishes in his heats, but John Klyn suffered with problems all day.

Joe Geeves came close to cancelling due to the weather in the middle class of the Pre 80 Bangers, but will be pleased he didn’t as he took two wins and had two second-place finishes.

James Ellis was also in the middle class, and although he didn’t really have the rub of the green fans were excited to see the 85 car gliding around the King’s Lynn shale once again.

Max Stott had a good night in the unders class as he won the meeting final, but Jack Licquorice had a difficult night and had to change an engine in the pits before racing – and amazing effort considering the conditions.

Racing returns to King’s Lynn on August 19 for one of the big events of the season – the 1300 Stock Car World Final and 2L Stock Car British Championship. Racing will also come from the F2 Stock Cars.
