March Town and Whittlesey Athletic victorious but defeats for Wisbech Town and Parson Drove
There were decent wins for March Town and Whittlesey Athletic this afternoon but big defeats for Wisbech Town and Parson Drove.
March bounced back from their disappointing FA Vase exit last Saturday to cruise to a 3-0 victory at strugglers GNG Oadby Town in the United Counties Premier South.
Josh Burrows opened the scoring for The Hares after 31 minutes, Toby Allen netted his first goal since returning to the club on the hour and sub Ben Tait wrapped up the points five minutes from time with his seventh goal of the campaign.
The victory leaves fourth-place March four points clear in the play-off places and they also have a game in hand over the chasing pack.
In the United Counties Premier North, it was a day to forget for Wisbech Town as they were thumped 4-0 at mid-table Harrowby Town.
Harry Allcock gave the Lincolnshire side a 14th-minute lead and Harrison Dee, Allcock again and Elliot King added three more after the break.
The Fenmen are now just five points from the drop zone having played three games more than Shirebrook Town, who occupy the second relegation spot.
Whittlesey Athletic are now seven points clear of the Thurlow Nunn First Division North relegation spots after a fourth successive home win, 2-0 against bottom club Swaffham Town.
Skipper Harry Jenkins opened the scoring for Athletic after 25 minutes and Ollie Gale wrapped things up deep into second half added on time.
But Parson Drove slip to tenth after a 5-0 drubbing at fourth-place Framlingham Town. Archie Exworth put the Castlemen 1-0 up at the break and Max Willett, Junior Kankam, Joe Berry and Josh Lucraft scored without reply after the break.
March entertain UCL Premier South leaders St Neots Town in the semi-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup - which The Hares won last season - on Tuesday night, before travelling to play eighth-place Eynesbury Rovers next Saturday.
There is another tricky game for Wisbech next Saturday as play-off chasing Newark Town come to Fountain Fresh Park.
In the Thurlow Nunn League, Whittlesey’s home run will be tested when leaders Haverhill Rovers are the visitors, while second-place Harwich & Parkeston travel to play Parson Drove.
