LEARN MOREMarch Town are up to a season's best sixth place in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division after a 2-0 home victory against Newmarket Town this afternoon.
The division's top scorer Jack Friend netted his 24th of the season and Ben Matthews scored the second in front of the Hares' best attendance of the season, 317. It's now nine wins and two draws in the last 11 games for March.
There was also a win for Parson Drove in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division North, triumphing 2-1 at play-off contenders Whittlesey Athletic, Ryan Lennon netting his 12th goal of the season and Gary Smith scoring a 30-yard screamer.
In the same division, there was no game for Wisbech St Mary.
Wisbech Town stay seven points from automatic safety in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midland Division, however, after an unlucky 1-0 home defeat to fourth place Stamford.
A 79th minute goal from the prolific Jonathan Margetts spolit the day for the returning Dick Creasey and means the Fenmen have now gone five games without scoring since beating Soham 3-0 in December. They currently occupy the relegation play-off place but are just three points ahead of bottom placed Soham Town and ahead of second-from-bottom Histon only on goal difference.
