March boss after a reaction from his players for Newport Pagnell home game
March Town boss Ash Taylor is looking for a reaction from his players when they host Newport Pagnell in the United Counties Premier South at the weekend.
Taylor admitted his side were second best as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at seventh-place Eynesbury on Saturday,
"If we perform like that again we will get beat, simple as that," he said.
"We have to be better and need to train better. We have to be ready and I will be looking for a reaction from the team."
Eynesbury’s goals came from Lewis Lynn and Luke Young and the Hares are now just two points clear of the pack chasing the play-off places.
"It was a bad day," admitted Taylor after the game.
"First of all you have to give credit to the opposition, they were the better team today.
"The first 15 or 20 minutes we were the better team. We had some moments but didn't make them count and from then on they were the better side.
"The disappointing thing for me today is that athletically and from an aggression point of view, we weren't at it. They won the first balls and second balls and made the better decisions in the final third.
"I like my teams to show a little bit more desire, energy and grit and we fell quite a way below my expectations today.
"Some home truths have been said to the lads but it's only one game so it isn't the end of the world.
"We let them get hold of it and didn't try to get it back ourselves and the game just passed us by."
Alex Street played in goal for the Hares with regular custodian Jonah Gill missing for three games while both Craig Gillies (broken ribs) and Ryley Nicholson-Barfoot were missing through injury and illness.
"Everyone knows that Pedro (Alex Street) has played at a higher level and done well at a higher level," said Taylor, who could be without talisman Gillies for anything up to three weeks.
"He's a good lead, a real character and a winner. He's just given it to the lads and is only here while Jonah is away.
"I appreciate him coming in these three games to help us and he has made some really good saves in the second half."
