March boss reveals that new signing from Yaxley had been in his sights for a while

March Town boss Ashley Taylor has revealed that recent arrival Ryley Nicholson-Barfoot had been on his radar for a while.

Nicholson-Barfoot - signed from Yaxley last week - made his debut off the bench during the Hares' comfortable 3-0 victory at strugglers GNG Oadby Town in the United Counties Premier South on Saturday.

The youngster replaced Craig Gillies in the second half and after the game Taylor said: "When he came on he got the ball from a throw-in, beat a player, put in a cross and Taity (Ben Tait) has shot from the penalty spot and he's put it over.

"Talk about having an instant impact and that's what we wanted. He needs to get up to speed with his match fitness but we've spoken to him about that and he's aware of what he needs to do.

"He's a really bright kid and I'm really happy he's here. I've wanted to bring him here for some while and whenever he's played against us he's been a threat and when that's the case I want to try to get them to this football club.

"He'll just get better for us over time once he understands the way we play and he will be a very good player for us."

Josh Burrows opened the scoring for The Hares after 31 minutes, Toby Allen netted his first goal since returning to the club on the hour and sub Ben Tait wrapped up the points five minutes from time with his seventh goal of the campaign.

The victory leaves fourth-place March four points clear in the play-off places and they also have a game in hand over the chasing pack.

"I think the main thing was to get a reaction to the disappointment that we had last week," admitted Taylor.

"It was a tough week for us but we trained well on Wednesday and came here today and got the job done.

"We've scored three good goals and had three different scorers and on another day we could have scored six or seven.

"If I was to have one little moan perhaps it would be that we should be a little more ruthless at times.

"But if you now look back at our last two games in the league we've scored nine and conceded none so I've got to be happy with that."

Tomorrow night, March will entertain UCL Premier South leaders St Neots Town in the semi-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup before travelling to play eighth-place Eynesbury Rovers on Saturday.

March Town: Gill, Burrows, Brumby, Withers, Emmington, Green (Biggs), Saunders (Tait), Foy, Gillies (Nicholson-Barfoot), Allen (Escorcio), Cotton (Williams).
