March manager looks to strengthen playing squad after home defeat to Rugby Borough

Hares boss Ashley Taylor will step up his search for new players following Saturday's home defeat to Rugby Borough in the UCL Premier Division South.

March Town's ten-game unbeaten league and cup run was ended by the visitors at Robin Goodfellows Lane, which saw the visitors leapfrog the Hares up to third in the league standings.

Taylor was limited with his attacking options for the clash and is keen to bolster his squad before another tough game at Northampton ON Chenecks on Saturday.

Taylor said: "We made some approaches that we spoke about previously but they didn't come off. We are looking to strengthen the group.

"I'll be honest today we weren't strong enough, there wasn't enough strength in depth in what we had available to us and that's just me being brutally honest.

"We are looking to try to improve the group. We'll have a light session on Wednesday as the players look tired so it will be a lot of technical work.

"Northampton are in and around the play-offs and I've heard really good things about them. We could have one or two additions but there's no guarantee with that."

The only goal of the game was scored by Mx Proudlock in the second half.

"I think first half they were the better team and full credit to them," said the March boss.

"They were the best team I've seen with the ball, the way they move it and their rotation and they caused us some issues.

"We kind of set up in a way that we wouldn't normally do and that was pretty much because of the players we had missing.

"I'm not making excuses but we had a lot of attacking players missing so had to be a little bit more pragmatic and let the opposition have the ball, which we don't normally do.

"The first half they had just two shots on our goal so we limited them to nothing on our goal really.

"In the second half, we decided to change it so we were more on the front foot and go for it and we did that.

"We created some really good opportunities that on another day we would have scored.

"Dotty's (Dan Cotton) chance he normally scores nine times out ten but that can happen. He knows he should have scored and I've told him that.

"We had some other chances and limited them to nothing clear-cut second half so I was pleased with the way we defended as a group.

"The frustrating thing is that we've put a lot of energy into the game and defended well but then they've scored a very scrappy goal.

"If they score one from 20 yards that goes into the top corner you kind of accept that a bit more.

"From our normal standards, allowing a spare man in the box and switching off it was a poor goal to concede.

"The players have said there was a handball and I will have a look back at it but the referee hasn't given it and we haven't dealt with the situation.

"I thought we were a bit passive in the duels and made it easy for them in the first half but in the second half we were a lot more aggressive.

"Matty Foy, playing out of position, was excellent with his defensive work and what he did on the ball was very good.

"Taity (Ben Tait) didn't stop running for the team and I thought Emmo (Danny Emmington) was solid too."

March Town: Gill, Green, Saunders (Biggs), Withers, Emmington, Brumby, Burrows (Cowie), Foy, Gillies (Rider), Tait, Cotton.
