March manager hails club after successful league and cup campaign on the pitch
Ash Taylor says he knows what is required to get March Town back in shape for another promotion challenge next season.
The Hares' chief revealed that the planning for next term has already begun after leading the club to the play-offs for a second successive campaign.
March also reached two cup finals, winning the Cambs Invitational Cup, and enjoyed a record-breaking run in this season's FA Vase.
Taylor said: "We need to try to find maybe one or two players in the summer that can try to take us to the next level.
"I don't think there needs to be lots of changes, but we have got to try to improve certain things because we have been inconsistent.
"In my eyes, we should have finished third because we had the easier games while Rugby had a very tough fixture list.
"We didn't take advantage to finish third and then had to go away to Rugby.
"It is frustrating as we didn't capitalise on it. When you look at the table and St Neots, the difference is that they scored 30 more goals than we did.
"It's not just firepower, but it's a combination of that. You can have good strikers, but if they don't get fed the right balls with the right quality, then you won't score goals.
"That showed in the Cambs Invitational Cup last week when we had to play Louis Hilliard for us because we had players missing.
"Lewis came into midfield and added that bit of quality and composure to create things.
"We understand we need to maybe improve the creativity, whether it be midfield or full-back area and make sure the top lines are a little bit more clinical."
A lot of how the club fares will depend on which league the Hares find themselves find them in.
The club have applied to join the Thurlow Nunn League, or they could remain in the United Counties League Premier Division South or potentially be moved up to the North.
“We don't know what league we're going to be in," admitted Taylor after the 2-0 defeat to Deeping Rangers in the Hinchingbrooke Cup final on Tuesday night.
"There are rumours that we could be put in the UCL North. We've applied for the Thurlow Nunn, but we just don't know, so we're going to see what league we're in first, and then we will have an idea of what we need to do.
"Hopefully, we'll know sooner rather than later. The problem is we're right on the border between the Thurlow Nunn and the UCL.
"We've got Wisbech 15 minutes down the road, but they're in the north and we're in the south.
"We're in such a funny location because of where the league borders are set and it causes us a bit of an issue."
Reflecting on the season as a whole, Taylor remains delighted with the club's progress and support.
"I just said to the lads that I'm super proud of what they've done. Yes, we could have done better in certain games, but look at the days and the nights that we've given the supporters this year.
"For example, Daventry at home was 1,000 plus, the Takeley game before that when we went away in the FA Vase with coaches and then the final last week.
"All we are trying to do is be successful and give fans as many of those days and nights as we can. I can't give any more credit to the lads, I think they've given me everything."
