March Town prepares for huge FA Vase clash against Daventry Town
March Town manager Ash Taylor says his team has not “achieved anything yet” heading into their huge Fourth Round FA Vase clash at home to Daventry Town on Saturday.
The Hares warmed up for the big tie with a 6-0 home win over Lutterworth Town at the weekend and have now won five games in succession.
But after a hugely successful 2024, Taylor is challenging his side to take their success to the next level.
Taylor said: "We've done well in the FA Vase so far, have reached two semi-finals and we are doing well in the league but the challenge for us now is to take it a step further.
"We want to make more noise and want to try to create more good times and more good memories for the people that are involved and support this great football club.
"It's about not taking our foot off the gas and keeping trying to go forward. Have we really achieved anything yet? The upshot is no but the upshot of that is there is an opportunity for us and we've created that from the hard work we've put in."
A bumper crowd is expected at Robingoodfellows Lane as the Hares take on the Purple Army. Daventry are two places and five points behind March in the table and saw their game postponed on Saturday.
March started with both Toby Allen and Harvey Henderson on the bench against Lutterworth with the two cup-tied for the visit from the Northamptonshire outfit.
"The Takeley game (in the last round) I was thrown back a little bit by the attendance given the conditions," said Taylor.
"We're at home and these types of occasions don't come around too often.
"I would say to the people of March, come out, support us and try to be involved in what hopefully turns out to be a special day for us.
"The more people that come down here, the better this team can be.
"We need everyone being loud and backing us at every moment in the game, even the tough moments.
"If we are all in it together and the lads feel that then we've got a good chance."
Despite the enormity of the tie, Taylor said his side will prepare for the game as normal.
"We'll just prepare for the game how we normally would, we are not going to change anything," he said.
"We will train and have a session around what we want to do in the game and make sure the session is at a high level.
"It's important that we come into Saturday feeling ready and looking to perform.
"It is one of the biggest games in the club's history, we know that, we are going to have great support and I know my players, they love the big games and they showed that against Takeley.
"There was no fear there, no pressure, it was a case of let's go and the bigger the game, I back us."
Daventry won 11-10 on penalties at Newark Town in the Third Round, following a 1-1 draw.
They beat Staveley Miners Welfare 1-0 at home in the Second Round, won 2-1 at Highgate United in the First Round and 7-0 at home to Rushden & Higham United in the Second Qualifying Round. Their danger man is Luke Knight, with 11 goals so far this season.
Taylor said: "We understand Daventry is going to be a very difficult game. We played them earlier in the season and they've got some tremendous players.
“They have been doing well and will also want to progress. It looks as though it's going to be a good game, but if we do things the way we want to do things then we'll have a really good good chance."
The winning team picks up £1,875 and the losing team get £600.
