March Town boss Taylor sets his team a target after another great away win

March Town manager Ashley Taylor was delighted with the progress his team is making after an emphatic 4-1 win at Swaffham Town this afternoon made it 10 league games without defeat.

After watching his side win their fifth of six unbeaten away games, Taylor set his side the challenge of continuing the current form to the end of the season.

He said: "We knew there would be frustrations with the state of the pitch and the windy conditions so it was not going to be a perfect footballing performance and there were going to be mistakes made because of that.

"So it was just about making the right decisions on the ball and playing in areas if we had to. Obviously, second phase of play was important and we made sure we dominated that part of the game.

"I don't think any player really shone today as the conditions didn't allow that, but Jack Friend did tremendously well for his three goals, Craig Gillies worked really hard beside him and young Luis Cowie scored with his first touch."

"On form we are in a top two position over the last 10 games and we are really happy with that. The challenge is to maintain that until the end of the season. Obviously the top three are out of sight but we want to finish as high as we can.

"Since returning after Christmas we have three wins and a draw in the league so that's a good return. We have some big games coming up, but we're ready.

""Next season we really want to push on. With the squad we have at the moment we are probably punching above our weight a little, especially when you compare our resources to those teams at the top – we are nowhere near that.

"But credit to the boys with what they are doing. It is not all about money, it is about creating the right environment and the right team. Our plan is to be ambitious and we will see where that takes us.

"We want to build on this form next season, make a few additions and see what happens."

On Cowie, Taylor said: "I know him because he's on the scholarship at Cambridge United where I work. We signed him from Ely, where he had played a couple of first team games this season. He's a really good talent and I'm so pleased we've got him.

"He's a wide player and can also play as a number 10 so he's a great one for us in the future."

Next up for March is a home game on Saturday with Newmarket Town, who kncoed the Hares out of the Cambridgeshire Invitational Cup on Tuesday.Taylor said: "This gives us a chance to look at that and try to find solutions to beat them, as they really did a job on us, so I'm looking forward to that game.

"They are a very good team with some great players, so it's going to be a challenge and on paper they should be favourites, but we have now overtaken them in the league so, competing with these type of teams, it shows how far we have come."

And Taylor is hoping for another bumper attendance, with crowds of 254, 238 and 271 at their last three homes games. "The atmosphere against Ely was so good and even today we had more supporters here than Swaffham.

"I appreciate the supporters so much. I think they see a team that wants to fight for each other, that has a good identity and they are proud to support them and be associated with them.

"This club is not just about me and the team, it's about everyone. We do everything as one and that's the way we want it to stay."
